Welcome! I’m Lauren and I’m so glad you stopped by. I’m a twenty-something wife to my husband Jordan, stay-at-home mama to our sweet baby boy Caleb and puppy Olive, former Spanish teacher, and lover of good food, house projects, and real, honest conversations over coffee.
I’m originally from Orange County, CA, but always felt like a Southern girl at heart. I moved to North Carolina to attend Davidson College after I graduated high school, and it took me less than a week to start saying “y’all” and drinking way too much sweet tea. One semester of Spanish made me fall in love with languages, and I spent the rest of my college experience studying Spanish, French, and German. Traveling is a passion of mine (and now my husband’s!) and some of my favorite places I’ve been are Germany, Ecuador, Scotland, and Switzerland.
I probably would have stayed in the Southeast close to Davidson if I hadn’t met my Midwestern hubby while working at the snack bar of a Young Life camp in New York. We dated long distance for two years and I moved to Kansas City, MO when I graduated from Davidson. We’ve been BBQ-eating, KC Chiefs/Royals loving, Boulevard Beer drinking folks ever since and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
I’ve been married to this handsome man for about three years now, and it has been simultaneously the best and the most challenging thing I’ve ever done (read about how we met and fell in love HERE). Jordan is funny, amazingly attractive, clever, and one of the most dedicated people I know when it comes to running, biking, and anything athletic. He teaches high school special education, and his kindness, compassion, and leadership never cease to amaze me. He also has a surprisingly good eye for home decorating and will happily eat just about anything I put in front of him. I’m a lucky girl.
In January 2015, Jordan and I bought our first home. We have had so much fun painting, decorating, and learning about all the joys (and struggles) of homeownership. We love love love inviting people into our home, and do all we can to make our house an inviting, cozy place where people feel safe to share their stories and their hearts. Check out more pictures of our house here!
Finally, in February 2016 we added a tiny, adorable new member to our family: our sweet son Caleb. We are loving this new world of parenthood with all its challenges and joys and are so grateful to have a loving, giggly boy who lights up our days (and takes away our sleep on occasion).
My heart for this blog is that it be a place of sobremesa, a place where we can share our stories and laugh and cry together. I believe that sharing the good and the hard and the real is what connects us, what builds community and reminds us of all we share, instead of our differences. I hope that reading my stories and the stories of other women here on the blog encourages you and reminds you that you’re not alone in your own struggles, and you never will be.
