Holy moly, it has been a packed two weeks! With a sick baby and lots of events on the calendar, I haven’t gotten around to sharing a Friday post in a while. Enjoy some pictures and updates from our last two weeks!
1) Wedding Date Night
A friend of Jordan’s got married two weekends ago so we dressed up, had Jordan’s mom come over to watch Caleb, then headed downtown for a fun date night! It was so fun to put on a dress and spend a night just us and we loved getting to celebrate Jordan’s friend Mike and his wife Lisa. The wedding ended right after dinner around 6:30 so we headed to a local brewery/restaurant that Jordan and his friends used to hang out at back in college. We were cracking up because we were all yawning and exhausted at 7:30 PM dressed in our nice clothes with all the hipster “young folks” at the bar. When did we become lame grownups, y’all? I can definitely blame Caleb for part of it, but it was pretty funny to sip my decaf coffee and long for bedtime even though it wasn’t even 8:00 PM.
I’ll also add this was the first time in maybe 3 years I’ve worn heels and I was 94% certain I was going to die or have to amputate my legs from the knee down before the night was over. Fortunately I survived but you won’t find me in heels again any time soon!
2) Caleb’s First Night Without Us
When we left Caleb with Jordan’s mom (aka Nana) for the wedding, it was the first time anyone besides us had put Caleb down for the night. He doesn’t nurse to sleep but nursing is part of his bedtime routine so I was a little nervous to leave him. We did a practice run with Jordan earlier in the week and he did great then, so we were super happy when he did great for his Nana too! Although it’s a little bittersweet to see him growing up and being more independent, it made me excited for a season when we can slip out for a date night or day a little more easily. I’m sure I’ll miss the snuggles but it sure will be nice to be able to have some more date nights again!
3) A Trip To The Pumpkin Patch
Last weekend we headed to the pumpkin patch with Jordan’s family. The weather was gorgeous and it was fun to walk around with all of our littles to see the animals, eat amazing pumpkin donuts, and check out the pumpkins, even though we didn’t buy them because I’m a cheapskate and know that they only cost $3 at Aldi.
This trip to the pumpkin patch reminded me how grateful I am to have family so close. I love that Caleb gets to spend these moments with his grandparents, his cousins, and his aunts and uncles, and wish my family lived closer so they could enjoy that time too. I know it’s sappy, but my heart is so full and grateful that we get to share life with Jordan’s family whom we love so much!
4) Opening Our Home
Last Friday night we had a few friends over for dinner and some games and it was fun to cook a yummy meal and open up our home after a few months of not doing that all that often. I spent the day making a yummy chicken pot pie casserole recipe that’s one of our favorites. We usually eat pretty healthy but every once in a while it’s fun to eat a recipe that calls for heavy cream and a stick of butter, you know? I shared in Monday’s post some of my favorite tips for still being hospitable when you have kiddos, so if you’re like us and find it’s harder to host once you’re parents, make sure to check those out!
5) Hand, Foot, And Mouth
Caleb has continued to struggle on and off with naps and waking up super early, often being up for a two hour period sometime between 1 AM and 6 AM and struggling to fall back asleep even after nursing and taking some Tylenol since I thought he might be teething. On Tuesday morning he was up fussing at 4 and when I went to check on him, he was burning up. He had a temperature of 103.1 and the pediatrician wanted me to bring him in since he was already on day 5 of antibiotics for another infection he’d had two weeks before. They took one look at his throat and diagnosed the poor guy with Hand, Foot, and Mouth, instructing me to take him home and give lots of ibuprofen and snuggles.
I earned a whole lot of mom badges those next few days, including catching my kiddos throw-up in my hands and cleaning up a diaper blowout that was so intense there was poop all the way in the FEET of Caleb’s footie pajamas. Good grief. Caleb seems to be on the up and up but it was an exhausting week. I’m grateful to have a healthy kiddo and hope he’ll be able to catch a break and not get any more illnesses any time soon!
Here’s the October, the best of months, and all the wonderful things that come with it! Enjoy your weekends!
