Happy Friday, friends! We made it through the week and now (if you’re a teacher like me) it’s just ONE more week until winter break! I am so ready for two weeks off to sleep in, sit by my Christmas tree, and enjoy sweet time with all my favorites. One. More. Week. But until then, here’s a few updates from this past week and weekend!
1) A Sick Puppy
This little lady has randomly gotten sick a few times over the last few weeks and we’ve seen some changes in her appetite, so we decided to take her to the vet just to get things checked out. She was completely fine and her normal rowdy self, so they said to switch to a food for sensitive puppy tummies and see if that helped at all. I’m glad she’s fine, but it really was so pitiful and sad to see her hurting. I know I’ve said it before (like in this post about how getting a dog made me a better human), but worrying about her this week reminded me how close she is to my heart. This girl is a part of our family and brings us so much joy. To say I’m glad she’s just a princess with a sensitive tummy is a major understatement!
2) Holiday Cheer
I have had Christmas on the brain this week! I shared our Christmas home tour on Monday and my favorite ways to decorate for Christmas without spending money on Thursday. I have some other fun posts planned for next week about my favorite cookie recipes and some thoughts I’ve been having about Christmas as we enjoy our last holiday season without little ones. This really is one of my favorite parts of the year and it’s been so sweet to come home every day after school, put my feet up, and read in front of our Christmas tree, especially as I feel our little man wiggle, punch, and kick as I rest. This season is so good, friends.
3) Crazy Couponing
I know I shared in my nursery inspiration post that we’d been doing lots of dreaming and planning for the nursery these last few weeks. Well, we racked up some coupons over Black Friday and did some major purchasing last weekend! We had some 20% off coupons from Black Friday that we used to make a few purchases we’d been needing, earned two $50 gift cards from doing that, and used THOSE to buy a glider (also 20% off with a another coupon). This is the glider we ended up buying from Target after lots of research and a few store visits to check the comfort. It is soft, pretty, and oh so squishy and I think it will be perfect! It is (and will be) the most expensive purchase for the nursery but I love it and can’t wait for lots of little boy snuggles on it.
4) Tired Feet And Tortilla Soup
I know I mentioned this week, but I’m starting to feel the effects of pregnancy more and it’s been a lot harder for me to get around these last few weeks. I’m on my feet all day at school and by the time I get home, I’m exhausted. That means my cooking has started to be more focused on convenience and less on taste. This easy, six can tortilla soup recipe was the perfect thing to make on Monday and last us throughout the week! I did doctor it up a bit with real chicken breasts and some spices and onions, but overall, I give it two thumbs up! I have a feeling I’ll get more and more lazy as the weeks progress, so our dinners might start to look more like this.
5) Hope and Heavy Hearts
It seems like my newsfeed has been full of hate and fear lately. Yours, too? This quote has always been one of my favorites and it’s been on my mind a lot as we see fear start to divide us along lines of religion and nationality. I’m praying that we’d always remember that we belong to each other, that words like theirs and ours really are meaningless in the grand scheme of things, that shutting our doors out of fear only leads to more and more hate and bitterness instead of peace. We belong to each other, my sweet friends. May we never forget it. (I wrote a post about the refugee crisis a few weeks back if you missed it. If this whole situation makes your heart as heavy as it does mine, I hope you’ll check it out!)
Wishing you a sweet weekend full of joyful time with the people you love!

I love that quote! I’ve noticed an increase in foot unhappiness too, but unlike you I’m terrified for vacation and all my kids being home 24/7:p.

It’s never fun when your pup is sick…you just feel helpless because you want them to be better and they can’t tell you what’s wrong. They’re definitely a HUGE part of the family, and your heart! Hopefully your pup is feeling better!!

I am so glad your puppy is okay, Lauren! My roommate just got a puppy and it’s so weird how much you naturally think about her and worry! My co-op rotation ends next week and I too can’t wait to get home and spend time with my family and finally relax and enjoy the season!

Thanks, Amanda! They really do become your baby, as silly as I used to think that was. I bet it will be so fun to finish off the year with some sweet, slow time with family after your co-op is over!

Sorry your puppy is sick 🙁 That’s no fun! YAY you made it through the week!! This week was really rough for me as well with my class. We had a huge finals paper due and I had to transcribe a 20 minute counseling session which took about 6 hours. Yay for being done with finals!! Hope you have a great weekend, friend!

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog! So glad she’s ok though. It’s so upsetting to see your furbaby in pain. I LOVE the look of that tortilla soup so I’m most definitely going to need to try it!

It’s always the worst to have a pup who isn’t feeling well. 🙁 It’s so hard because you can’t ask what’s wrong or tell them they’ll be fine. I’m glad to hear it’s just a sensitive stomach and hope she’s back to her normal self soon! 🙂

Hope your dog continues to be on the mend! We had to switch our cat’s food too, the old one was causing her to break out with scabs 🙁
That is a gorgeous glider! We don’t have that one, it’s a smaller one, and not entirely supportive, but it has been well used and loved. It’s so nice to have a chair in there for Sophie and for us if we need to rock her for a bit.
