Since last week I took a break from my normal Friday posts to share some thoughts about the election, it seems like it’s been a while since I thought back on what’s been going on with us. It’s been a crazy few weeks and I am excited for some of the not-so-fun grownup stuff we’ve been dealing with to wind down so we can rest and enjoy the holidays.
1) A Crazy Storm
A few weeks back our area got hit by a crazy hail storm. I had just woken up Caleb from his nap when all of a sudden it seemed like the world was ending and our house was exploding (can you tell hail is a strange thing for this California girl?). As we peeked out onto the back porch and saw huge, golf-ball sized hail smashing into the deck and screens, I immediately thought of Jordan and all the other teachers parked outside at the high school. He called me soon after and was actually out driving in it. Y’all, his car got DESTROYED by the hail. Fortunately he was okay but his car has tons of dents. There was also some damage to our house and we have insurance people coming out to take a look at that in the next few weeks. So crazy what one storm can do!
2) The Silver Lining Of That Storm
With the hailstorm and our recent car accident, I have done WAY too much adulting this week. I’ve been on the phone with insurance a million times dealing with the car accident on my car, filing a claim and getting an estimate on Jordan’s car for the hail damage, taking my car to the auto shop for an estimate on that damage, calling various health insurance companies to figure out what the HECK we’re going to do for my insurance in 2017, and all sorts of other blah grownup things. The only silver lining in it all is that we got a significant amount of money for the hail damage to Jordan’s car. Like…we can’t believe they didn’t just total it and instead wrote us this check. I am so, so grateful for insurance and the fact that we are actually getting some money instead of losing it for this!
3) Soup Season
It seems silly, but making soups every week is one of my favorite parts of the changing seasons. We’ve been loving sourdough bread lately and there is nothing more delicious and cozy than a warm bowl of soup and some freshly toasted bread and butter. Throw in new episodes of our favorite tv shows (currently This Is Us) and you’ve got the perfect weeknight! On Monday I made one of our favorites: this chicken, quinoa, kale, and BACON soup. Nom!! This picture below has nothing to do with soup, but these two cuties are always around while we’re eating dinner so it’s still connected, right?
4) Cousin Time
It’s been fun to watch Caleb’s cousins grow and learn new things and I love that he’ll share life with them over the years. Caleb’s cousin Merritt has been crawling, pulling up on furniture, and getting into all sorts of stuff (his mama Sarah has her hands full!) and it was fun to see him and Caleb interacting. They both were chatting up a storm and giggling at each other and we were all dying watching them play. I can’t wait to see them grow up together!
5) Fun New Milestones
It seems like Caleb has grown so much in the last week. I was singing “If You’re Happy And You Know It” to him and when I finished the first line and clapped, he looked right at me and clapped back with a big ol’ grin on his face! Now clapping is his favorite thing and his face lights up when we start singing that song. He’s also THIS close to crawling and will get on all fours and try to rock and reach for whatever he can find. I am so excited for him to crawl, even though I know it will mean I have to keep a much closer eye on him. I really do feel so honored and grateful to get to witness his growing and changing each day. I sure do love being this kid’s mama!
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend and a great Thanksgiving!

I love the pictures of Caleb! It is SO MUCH WORK having a baby that crawls and pulls up on stuff! Jackson started crawling early in September and started pulling up at the end of September and it is CRAZY how much of a difference it makes! He’s constantly bumping his head and he wants to stand up on everything. He is constantly opening every drawer in the kitchen and he wants to climb up the stairs every chance he gets. I found him eating a piece of mulch out of a plant the other day and he pulled an entire 7′ fake tree over the other day. He is such a handful! But it’s really fun to have him crawl to you and pull up on you and he just wants to be loved! That hail is huge! I’m glad the insurance company settled it and actually wrote you guys a check.

I’m sorry life has been so hectic! But I love those little toddler milestones.
