Summer is in full swing and we’ve loved getting to be home with our baby nugget. Here are a few updates, photos, and silly stories from our last two weeks!
1) Slow Summer Days
With Jordan home for the summer, we’re doing a whole lot of nothing these days. Jordan has cross-country practice in the mornings, then once he gets home we spend our days going on walks, playing with Caleb, watching TV shows (we’re currently rewatching the Office and loving it), and running random errands. I do love these slow days but I still wrestle with the feeling that we should be doing more (like I shared about in this post about how I’m fighting the pressure to be productive). I’m trying to be content and remember that I’ll long for these slow days when we have a crazy toddler or multiple kiddos! So for now, if you need us, there’s about a 95% chance we will be at home in the AC snuggling our sweet boy and laughing at silly TV shows.
2) Baby Milestones
One of the best parts of being at home with Caleb each day is getting to watch as he reaches all sorts of milestones. This past week he rolled over for the first time and it caught us completely by surprise! Jordan put him down for tummy time and he just looked at us then rolled right on to his back! We started cheering and cracking up and he started crying (new experiences like that are overwhelming for a baby nugget, you know?). He’s done it a few times since then and it always makes us laugh because he’s so surprised afterward. He’s also started grabbing at things like the toys on his activity mat, some other little toys we have, mommy’s hair, and as of yesterday, his toes! It’s so fun to see him start to discover the world and I feel so grateful to be there for all those little moments.
3) Pool Time
It has been SO stinking hot here this week and we’ve braved it once or twice to go to the pool. We went with Jordan’s family last weekend and took Caleb for the first time. Let’s just say he wasn’t a huge fan and started screaming bloody murder when Jordan dipped his little legs in. The water was pretty darn cold, so we’re hoping that as he gets a little older and summer progresses he’ll start to like it a bit more. For now, we are using his naptimes as mini “pool” times and sitting out on our back deck to soak in some sun. Mama’s gotta get tan somehow, you know?
4) Adulting Tasks
Soooo I may or may not have gotten a ticket a few weeks back for having expired tags. I was in the process of getting it all sorted out in February (we had issues with our property tax reports so I had to drag my 9 months pregnant self to the county assessor’s office to settle them) when a certain baby decided to come three weeks early. I haven’t even thought about it since until I got pulled over! The police officer didn’t seem to think my baby was a good excuse, so I spent the last two weeks going to get an inspection, then realizing we had to replace my brake pads/rotors, getting that all replaced, and doing all sorts of other not fun adulting tasks until I finally got the new tags last week. BLAH. Can we all just agree that those kind of adulting tasks are the absolute worst?
5) Ikea Trips
We had been wanting to grab a few random things at Ikea, so we planned to make the 30 minute drive out there based on Caleb’s naps. He slept fine on the way there but for some reason woke up extremely fussy and wouldn’t eat when we got there. He started screaming and screaming in the middle of the Ikea food court (which echoes like crazy), but seemed content in Jordan’s arms so we figured we’d try to walk around and grab the few things we came for and then feed him. Ten minutes in he went into hungry meltdown mode. Let’s just say you don’t realize what a maze Ikea is until you’re trying to carry a screaming baby out of it. I finally got him to calm down and eat in the car then he slept the whole way home. I’d been hoping to recreate this photo from our last Ikea trip while I was pregnant (but now with Caleb in my arms) but that plan might have to wait until next time. Babies have a mind of their own!
Here’s to many more weeks of summer adventures and joy! Have a lovely weekend!

I love the verb “adulting”! Really enjoying your blog these days: I had twins in Feb 2016 so they’re right there with Caleb. Have a great weekend!

Oh my! What a week you’ve had! I can totally picture him getting his little legs wet and screaming. It’s something I’ve witnessed before in nieces and nephews.. as freaked out as they are, there’s something mildly funny about it haha!! Poor guy! And sorry about the tags – those kinds of issues are the worst!

I am SO happy you are rewatching The Office. It’s essentially the only TV show that I can watch and re-watch. Not kidding, so far this year, Brandon and I rewatched the entire series. And at the end of the it, I was sat up and asked him if we could start it again tomorrow. I just love Michael Scott!

What a sweet post! I enjoyed every bit of it. Too bad babies don’t understand the importance of an IKEA milestone photo, ya know?! Haha
