As of this week, I am just a little past the halfway point of this pregnancy. It is crazy to think how the days and weeks have both gone so slowly and flown by. I have a feeling that’s a lot like what being a mama will feel like! It’s been a while since I did a “bumpdate” (like this one at 15 weeks) so today’s post is dedicated just to random ramblings and updates about pregnancy. If you’re super curious about all this like me, then read on and enjoy! If not, then enjoy the rest of your day! 🙂
Anyway, here are a few updates of how these last few weeks and months have been:
How I’m Feeling: Like I shared a few weeks ago, the nausea is officially GONE! It faded at about week 16 and with the exception of a few random yucky tummy days, I’ve been feeling good! This is such a relief and I have such respect for all you mama’s who were sick during your entire pregnancy. I can’t even imagine that! Now I’m just super hungry all the time and experiencing some random, not-so-fun heartburn at night. I’ve also been experiencing some round ligament pains and lots of back pain, but I have a feeling that’s just par for the course. Anyone have any tips they found to help soothe the aches and pains as their bodies stretch to hold and nourish a new little one?
How Baby’s Doing: We had our 20 week ultrasound last week and if I’m honest, I was a little nervous. Like I shared in this post from a while back on my fears of miscarriage, we know several people who’ve gone in for an ultrasound like this to find that something wasn’t quite right with their sweet babies and they had some hard battles ahead as they fought for baby’s health. I wasn’t really anxious until the day of the appointment and then I woke up with my mind spinning a bit. After a day of lots of prayers and reciting Philippians 4:6-7 over and over, we went in to the appointment and were overjoyed to see that everything was healthy and and normal! Such a sweet gift, friends.
Gender Reveal: I loved getting to see that sweet little profile and moving arms and legs. It was also fun to discover that we are having a baby BOY! He wasn’t shy about making this fact known and the ultrasound tech told us his gender within the first 10 seconds of the appointment. Such a fun little surprise! She also called him ornery at least 2-3 times during the appointment as she tried to move him in my belly, so I have a feeling I’m in for a mischievous little guy (just like his daddy). We love him already and are so so excited to dream about nurseries and snuggles and all sorts of fun things for him!
When we tried to take a picture of me, hubby was hangry and not in the mood for pictures and told me about ten times that the lighting wasn’t good and we should go inside and eat. I made this face that he happily captured, said some very sweet and loving words (at least that’s the story I’m sticking to) and we headed inside. Just in case you wanted confirmation that every moment of our life is picture perfect. 😉
Baby Movement: Another fun update is that I’m finally feeling baby boy move! I started to feel little pops and pings (my best description) around 19 weeks and since they’ve been pretty consistent since then, I feel pretty good in saying that I’m feeling him move regularly. Sometimes it feels like little kicks (especially in the morning and evenings) and occasionally it feels like motion, or as my friend Emily described it, similar to the feeling you get in your stomach when there’s turbulence in an airplane. I love those little reminders that this belly of mine is actually holding a tiny human and I am trying to enjoy the kicks while they’re still cute and little and not jabbing and painful.
Baby Bump: Oh man, folks, it is GROWING. It has definitely popped to look pregnant these last few weeks and it’s been fun to have people notice and point it out (I’m not at the point where I dislike people noticing my belly quite yet). It’s still fun and exciting! I can still wear a few non-maternity pants and plenty of shirts, but I am way more comfortable in maternity pants and the beautiful thing that is elastic waistbands. Seriously, why don’t ALL pants have this? The women of the world would be much happier if we were allowed to wear elastic waistbands all the time! Buttons and zippers are for suckers, y’all.
I snapped this picture during our trip to Branson last weekend (we are very organized unpackers, clearly), and it’s the first picture I’ve taken where I said to myself, “HOLY MOLY I LOOK LIKE A PREGNANT WOMAN!” Hence my facial expression.
A Heart Update: Back in this post about when pregnancy feels underwhelming, I shared about how I was struggling to comprehend that this pregnancy was real, that it was more than just some physical sickness. It’s been fun to feel my heart start to grow for this little one, to feel myself start to long to meet this little one who is stretching and growing me from the inside out. Knowing the baby’s gender made it feel a million times more real, as did choosing a name (which I’m sure we’ll share soon).
I am so grateful to be on this journey of motherhood and can’t wait to continue to feel my heart for this sweet little boy grow and grow as we get closer to his entrance into the world. Baby English, you are so, so loved and we can’t wait to meet you in 19 short weeks.

I am so, so glad that you’re feeling good and enjoying this part of pregnancy — 2nd trimester bliss is a real thing!! I could not agree more about maternity pants and elastic waist bands. It is not at all fair that these are only for pregnant and postpartum women. Elastic pants forever! Also, you should know that this is absolutely the most comfortable item of clothing I’ve ever owned, and I wear it several times a week (just in case you’re looking for some fall/winter dresses). Bonus: it will work for nursing too! http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1018239&vid=1&pid=902567012. Your description of taking pictures with Jordan cracked me up because it sounds a little bit familiar. 🙂 Dan’s patience with pictures only lasts for so long. Okay, this very long comment is coming to a close now. You look adorable and I can’t wait to “meet” baby boy!!

That dress is so cute! I’m actually wearing a very similar one from Old Navy today. They had a 40% off sale last week and I got two cute maternity dresses, one very similar to this but solid blue and one sweater dress! So cute! I have a feeling I’ll be all about dresses and soft maternity leggings with cozy boots as the winter comes and I get bigger and bigger!

Pops and pings…that is such a great description, I LOVE that!! Your little bump is so cute, and I’m happy you get to feel your little man moving and grooving. It is nice when your belly officially pops out so people for sure know you’re pregnant. Did you get that gold And Baby Makes ‘Three picture at Hobby Lobby by any chance? Side note: I still can’t get over how much I love your living room decor. It’s totally my taste. I’m so happy your sickness is gone! I was unfortunately very sick and throwing up every day through the end, so I’m really glad you won’t have that experience. Looking forward to more updates : )

It really is so fun! 🙂 We did get that sign at Hobby Lobby! We found out we were pregnant the day before we left for a trip to visit family in California. My best friend (who’s also a photographer) was there and so we ran to Hobby Lobby to try to find something to use for some spontaneous baby announcement pictures! I’m thinking we’ll find some way to incorporate it into baby’s room or somewhere around the house! And thanks about the living room….I love how that front room turned out!

My little boy was stubborn in ultrasounds too! All I wanted was that super cute profile shot and he refused to give it to us. Luckily I switched doctors and had another ultrasound and the ultrasound tech told me she’d get it this time. She had to to literally shake my belly to get him to move and even then he kept his legs up by his face. hahaha Now I treasure that moment from my silly, stubborn boy.

Love this! I really felt like when we knew we were having a boy, it became a lot more real too. We have our next ultrasound this Wednesday (our actual first “anatomy scan” with our OB- our gender one was at a clinic where we paid $40 to find out what we were having!) and I’m 22 weeks today. I can’t wait to see him again. And I LOVE his movements. I thought it’d be like an alien but I’m shocked by how I could just sit and feel him move all day and never get tired of it. I’m still not ready to meet him yet- I need more time- but I’m getting there! And I like it when people ask me if I’m pregnant now. It’s fun and I’m always shocked by how many people comment on it!!! I have no ideas about back pain. Mine was horrible around week 18-19 but has improved. I have a ton of lower abdominal pain with working out these days and have to limit a lot of movements, but am still managing. And my nausea left me around week 10, but has now returned and I never even want to eat or drink! I’m hoping it goes away again!
