Holy moly, this pregnancy feels like it’s been flying now that the fall is in full swing (and winter is rapidly approaching). This past weekend marked 24 weeks, or six months, of pregnancy and I can’t believe that we are just about four months away from meeting our little man (assuming he doesn’t decide to make an early appearance). Here’s a few updates on how the pregnancy’s been going so far!
Nursery Updates
Now that Jordan’s done with cross-country, we’ve jumped full force into some nesting! We took everything out of the baby room (including Olive’s kennel – she was VERY confused) and knocked out painting it last weekend. We have a pretty good system down where I cut in around the windows, ceiling, etc, and Jordan does the roller. We painted the walls a beautiful, cool shade of pale gray (like everything else in our house, I know – see our home tour here for evidence).
The color is Silver Drop by Behr (like I mentioned in Friday’s post). It looks so soft and pretty in there and I’m excited to start ordering some furniture and accent pieces. I’m scouring Craigslist and keeping an eye out for any Black Friday deals on furniture that pop up, but as of now, it’s looking like we might do a dresser and crib from Ikea unless I find anything else magically cheap this weekend. I can’t wait to get to decorating! (PS: Make sure to follow me on Instagram for more pictures and updates like this one!)
This picture below was supposed to show me painting with my baby bump. But I have officially outgrown any t-shirts that actually fit (or at least they are now awesome belly shirts that make me look like I have a beer belly) so this old Royals’ t-shirt of Jordan’s pretty much hides it all. Either way…you can at least see my super fancy painting method that involves messy buns, no makeup, and paint in a red solo cup.
How I’m Feeling
When I think back to those first few months of pregnancy, I am SO grateful to be beyond the nausea. I have heartburn and indigestion on and off, but for the most part, I’m in that “glowing” stage of pregnancy where I don’t feel huge and uncomfortable but most of the annoying first trimester symptoms are gone. I’m trying to soak that in because I know it won’t last forever. I’d say the worst part of these last two months was this week when I got a pretty nasty cold but wasn’t able to take Sudafed to knock out the yucky congestion and “full head” feeling. I drank a lot of tea, used a lot of saline spray, and blew my nose about 9 million times and I’m hoping it will magically go away soon! Either way, I’m grateful for sick days where I can drink some tea and snuggle my fur baby on the couch.
Also, can I pause and say that I’m still not convinced about this whole food cravings thing? I’ve yet to have some ridiculous craving for pickles and ice cream or something weird like other people do. I mostly eat about the same thing I did before (maybe more frequently) but that’s about it! Lots of apples and peanut butter, fruit, crackers, sweet potatoes, cereal, and of course some chocolate and the occasional bowl of ice cream. But beyond that? I’d say baby English seems content with the things that were already in my diet before.
Baby’s Name And Gender
In case you missed this post on baby’s gender or this letter I wrote to him explaining his name, our firstborn is an ornery little boy who we are naming Caleb Jordan English. I love that name, but it’s definitely taking me a while to get used to calling him a name. I still find myself tempted to just say “baby” instead of Caleb, so I’m trying my best to start imagining him as a “him” with a name. It’s weird but fun. I’m also having fun checking out the clearance racks for fun little outfits when I pop by Target. Who could resist a Where The Wild Things Are themed onesie for our little adventurer?!
How Baby’s Doing
Caleb is healthy and strong, according to our last appointment! I feel him move throughout the day now and it is such a surreal thing to feel those little kicks. Sometimes at night I can even see my belly move and pop when he kicks and that makes us both laugh a whole lot. This whole pregnancy business feels like growing an alien sometimes, doesn’t it? Jordan finally felt the kicks last week and it was so fun to see his surprise when little Caleb kicked his hand through my belly. So fun!
The Baby Bump
Folks, this bump is officially BUMPIN! Does anyone else think of the old Destiny’s Child song “Jumpin'” when they hear that? It’s been stuck in my head for weeks because I sing it every time I think about my bumpin’ baby bump. Welcome to my brain. Anyway, my belly has popped and there’s no hiding that I’m pregnant anymore (not that I was trying…I’m a pretty big fan of the bump).
I’ve had random folks ask me when I’m due, although no one’s tried to touch my belly yet. I still think it’s all so exciting and don’t mind the questions! As my belly grows, I am starting to find some daily tasks harder (putting on my socks/shoes is a freaking Olympic event, y’all), and I can’t help but grunt (in a very ladylike way of course) every time I have to stand up or squat down to pick something up. Give me about three weeks and I think I will be very much on the struggle bus when it comes to most things mobility!
With each week that passes I get more excited to meet Caleb and see our family grow. With only a week until Thanksgiving and three weeks until Christmas break, time feels like it’s starting to fly much more so than it did in the first few months. It’s just a few short months until Caleb will be here and we can’t wait!
If you missed them, here are a few more posts from throughout this pregnancy!

You are too cute, I can’t even stand it! Where to begin? How about with your adorable bump. I love your belt to show off all of your bumpin’ glory. That paint is such a beautiful color for the nursery; I can’t wait to see the finished product! I’m very happy that you’re feeling you’re in the glowing stage – you have always looked that you were in that stage anyway.

Your bump is so cute!! I’m sorry that you haven’t felt well. Being sick with a cold while pregnant is miserable. I got one last year and ended up in bed for five weeks. I felt worse than I did when I was first pregnant. I would have taken morning sickness over that any day 😛

It’s so crazy how sick you were! Hmmm I don’t know if I’d choose the morning sickness over this. This at least feels temporary where my dramatic pregnant brain was positive the morning sickness and nausea would last FOREVER. They didn’t of course, but you understand 😉

You are the cutest pregnant lady ever! And yes, I definitely could get on board with the Destiny’s Child thing! 😉
When my mom was pregnant with my brother, she craved Frosted Flakes A LOT. So it wasn’t a weird food, but it was weird for her to want that in particular. lol.

Aww thanks, Kristin! Haha I think that’s how I’ve been too. I’ve eaten a lot of certain foods (like apples and peanut butter) but I haven’t had weird spontaneous and urgent cravings. Who knows!

I totally have that Destiny’s child song stuck in my head now! I love getting updates and I’m curious to know who else doesn’t have cravings. I feel like all of my friends who have been pregnant did have odd cravings.

You are so adorable! I love reading bump-dates, and yours are some of my favorite! I am at Week 16 now and starting to show a little bit–I’m so excited to have a full-on bump soon! And I’ve seen some really cute nursery furniture at Target for a decent price if you haven’t checked there yet. 🙂

Thanks, Maegan! I love reading bumpdates too. Congrats to you on your pregnancy! I think I’ve already said that somewhere but it really is so exciting 🙂 We’ve looked a good bit at Target! I think we’ll get our glider from there. They have cute ones that won’t break the bank. Ikea has some pretty comparable stuff too though!

Looking good, fellow mama! 24 weeks is the glory days of pregnancy. The cute bump, the soft kicks – it’s awesome! Awww, I miss it! But I also don’t, because it gets REAL at about 30-32 weeks and I’m way past that mark. I could go any day now, and I’m ready to be done! I can’t wait to be able to move and put on shoes that aren’t slip-ons again! 😉

Love this! You still look GREAT! I’m 25 weeks and noticed this past weekend for the first time that my face is starting to look pregnant too, haha. And somebody at work today said to me, “I can tell you’re pregnant now everywhere else too,” haha. So, I’m definitely gaining outside of my belly now! I knew my legs were getting bigger, but now a lot of my shirts can’t even fit over my back (like my button ups) because I’ve apparently gotten much wider. But I’m past my glory days already! With how hard it is to lean forward and get in and out of my husband’s Jeep and how much indigestion I have, I’m definitely not as comfortable!

I can’t handle how cute you are-and I didn’t realize we were so close with the gestation(I’m 23 weeks tomorrow!) I didn’t have food cravings last time around, this time I craved tomatoes about a week haha, so I don’t believe the whole ice cream and pickles thing at all

Aww thanks, Katie! We love it too. Ikea actually has really good stuff! Their cribs are pretty highly rated by Consumer Reports and then I think we’ll just get a normal dresser and put a changing pad on top of it for a changing table. Other than that we will probably get a glider and maybe nightstand from Target ! If you find cute stuff you’ll have to share your sources with me! 🙂
